Chapter Management Committee Meeting Minutes

Bill Hogelin, Chapter Chair, convened a regular meeting of the Chapter's Management Committee at 11:45 a.m., on 13 Nov 08, at LogSec Corp in Eatontown, NJ.

Attendees:

Bill Hogelin, Bob Featheringham, Ken East, Bill McLean, Steve Bromka, Rich Nichols, Jeannie Allerton

Reports of Officers:

Reports were presented by:

Bob Featheringham - VC Finance

Bill Hogelin - Education

Bill McLean – Membership

Rich Nichols – Programs

Steve Bromka – Publicity

Jeannie Allerton – Admin

Administration:

Jeannie Allerton will coordinate her member mailing list with Theresa Brown, our Industrial Affairs committee member, who sends out the monthly luncheon flyer to those on her list.

Finance:

Bob Featheringham submitted the Treasurer’s Report which was accepted, subject to final audit. He transferred a substantial amount of the Chapter’s funds into a money market account in order to earn better interest.

Membership:

Bill McLean reported total membership at 177, with 11 renewals and 3 new members this month.

Education:

MAJ McCullough submitted his report in advance, as he was unable to attend. He recently spoke with a participant who took the Certified Master Logistician (CML) exam in Aug 08, who found that the test was quite challenging, covering many different areas, some of which people may not normally be exposed to in the performance of their daily duties. The exam was broken into three sections: Systems Management, Distribution and Customer Support, and Integrated Use Cases. Each section was to be completed in 2 hrs and was multiple-choice. The test results will come back in 12 – 14 weeks.

Given the apparent complexity of this exam, MAJ McCullough requests that the chapter purchase the recommended textbooks for the upcoming CML Prep Course, 25 copies of each. This should cover everyone who signs up for the CML prep course which is

scheduled to start mid-February. The books that are not used by members/students, our Chapter can store at the Fort Monmouth Library for public use. At this time, we are waiting to hear back from SOLE Hqs regarding prices and funding approval.

The CML Prep Course is scheduled to start mid February 2009.

MAJ McCullough also reported that EnLogex Corp. will conduct a Logistics Survey Course in conjunction with our Chapter to train Interns and others. The course will be an introduction to the Integrated Logistic Support (ILS) Career Field to Interns and others that may be interested. In the 2nd QTR FY 09, a Designated Logistics (DL) Workshop is planned.

LEF Liaison:

At the 21 October luncheon a total amount of $92.00 was donated to the Chapter, designated for LEF.

Programs:

Rich Nichols reported that our Chapter has been very fortunate to have such interesting guest speakers consent to give presentations at our luncheons. Our last speaker, Charles Mike Carter, the Associate Director Logistics & Readiness Center – Operations, captivated the audience at the 21 October luncheon with the topic: ARFORGEN Synchronization Conference Process. His PowerPoint slides are now available as needed on the website.

The next luncheon is scheduled for 18 Nov and the guest speaker will be Robert Lamanna, Chief, Business Development Division, Tobyhanna Army Depot (TYAD), Topic: Industrial Base Strategic Initiative – Where Capabilities and Readiness Meet.

The 16 Dec luncheon guest speaker will be Robert J. Goodwin, Logistics Management Specialist, CECOM LRC LEO, Topic: Left Behind Equipment: CECOM’s Piece of Maintenance and Supply Management.

Rich Nichols also reported that he is planning to work hand-in-hand with our Education lead to help develop CML and CPL workshops. He encourages all management committee members to participate in the workshops and to promote SOLE educational workshops and professional development activities in the workplace.

Lastly, he acknowledged and thanked Ann St. Germaine and CSC for their assistance in accommodating the storage of professional development equipment.

Reports of Committees:

Symposium:

Ken East has reserved the date of 12 May 2009, Tuesday, for the next Symposium. He asked for suggested topics, speakers, etc. Some recommended were: CEER-T, RESET. We may have a speaker from SOLE Hqs. A committee will form early in 2009 to begin planning this all-day event.

Awards:

A certificate of appreciation was presented to Charles Mike Carter, at the 21 Oct 08 luncheon for his presentation of "ARFORGEN Synchronization Conference Process."

Government Affairs:

A call for papers has come out for the SOLE Symposium in August.

Industrial Affairs Committee:

It was noted that since many interested people do not receive our emails regarding the upcoming monthly luncheons, Steve Bromka suggested that our Industrial Affairs Committee ask non-members when they check in at the registration table at the luncheon if they would like to be added to our mailing list. All agreed this is a good idea.

Newsletter:

Ann St. Germaine has done a great job of composing the newsletters and will be disseminating them to our members and the Garden State website.

Publicity:

Steve Bromka reported that the check was received and the bill paid up for the SOLE Website.

New Business:

Bob Featheringham reported that the Sheraton in Eatontown will raise the cost of our buffet luncheons to $26.00 ea person. We could change to a plated lunch which costs less at $22.00 ea. After some discussion among the members present, a motion was made to stay with the buffet lunch in spite of the raise in price. Motion was accepted.

Referring to the need for books as stated above under "Education", a motion was made by Bill Hogelin to buy one set of 4 books to be used as reference by students taking the CML classes. Motion was accepted.

Adjournment:

Motion to adjourn was made by Bill McLean and seconded by Ken East. The meeting was adjourned at 1:00.

Respectfully submitted,

Jeannie Allerton
