Society of Logistics, Chapter 7 - District 10 30 JUL 08 Chapter Management Committee Meeting Minutes Rich O'Donnell, Chapter Chair, convened a regular meeting of the Chapter's Management Committee at 11:45 a.m., on 30 Jul 08, at LogSec Corp in Eatontown, NJ. Attendees: Rich O'Donnell, Bob Featheringham, Ken East, Bill Hogelin, Bill McLean, Steve Bromka, Ron Fulton, Jeannie Allerton Reports of Officers: Reports were presented by: Bob Featheringham - VC Finance Bill Hogelin - Education Bill McLean – Membership Ron Fulton - Programs Steve Bromka – Publicity Jeannie Allerton – Admin Administration: J. Allerton submitted and read the minutes from the last committee meeting. K. East made a motion to accept the minutes and B. McLean seconded the motion. Finance: Bob Featheringham submitted the Treasurer’s Report which was accepted, subject to final audit. Membership: Bill McLean reported total membership at 178. In Jul 08 he and Ken Brockel spoke about the benefits of being a SOLE member to approximately 75 CECOM Logistics Interns in 3 different classes given at Fort Monmouth and distributed a flyer to them entitled "What’s In It For Me." Additionally, the flyer was sent to all members as an aid for them to encourage folks to sign up. B. McLean reported that 15 new members have joined our Chapter this year so far. Education: Bill Hogelin reported that Dr. Skip Grenoble from Penn State’s Smeal College of Business was part of the research team that wrote and published "eBusiness and Supply Chain Processes," a book about the impact of business-to-business Internet tools on supply chain processes. B. Hogelin noted that in order to take the CPL Exam, a letter signed by Rich O’Donnell, Chapter Chair, must be forwarded to SOLE Hqrs. Bill also said that MAJ McCullough, who will be taking over his position in the coming year, has some good ideas for CPL training classes. In the near future, Bill hopes to set up a
Reliability , Availability, and Maintainability (RAM) Workshop as there is a need for this in our logistics environment.LEF Liaison: No report submitted. Programs: Ron Fulton reported that the newly elected committee members for (2008-2009) were sworn in at our 15 July luncheon at the Sheraton. The election luncheon was held on 1 July 08 at the China Buffet in Eatontown where the ballots were presented and voted upon. Rich O’Donnell is in the process of filling the Professional Development position with the write-in candidate. All other positions were filled by cast of ballots. Regarding luncheon attendance, Ron Fulton said that the approximate number 35 (people) is a good estimation. He and others acknowledged that Ann St. Germaine has been doing a great job taking the reservations and working the registration desk at the luncheons each month. It was also noted that when the new committee member, Teresa Brown, takes over that position, she will need help. Reports of Committees: Symposium: Ken East has been working on the reports of the Symposium that will be sent to SOLE Hqrs. Awards: A certificate of appreciation was presented to COL Moore, PM Battle Command, at the 15 Jul luncheon for his presentation of "Evolving Battle Command Logistics." Government Affairs: B. Hogelin and more committee members plan to attend the SOLE Symposium in August in Fort Lauderdale. Industrial Affairs Cmte. The next luncheon is scheduled for 5 Aug 2008 and Mr. Gary Jackson, Logistics Management Specialist of the CECOM, LRC, LEO Directorate will be the speaker, Topic: "Flexible Computer Integrated Manufacturing (FCIM)" Newsletter: Rich O’Donnell asked all members to provide or suggest articles, authors, etc. to assist Ann St. Germaine who will be the new editor of the newsletter. Congratulations, Ann! Publicity: Steve Bromka reported that he needs 2 weeks notice to have notices published in the Monmouth Message and CECOM Knowledge Center. New Business:
Bob Featheringham reported that the Sheraton raised its prices in January and currently charges us $22.00 per head for luncheons. Our chapter, in turn, charges members $15.00 ($7.00 per head subsidy) and non-members $20.00 ($2.00 subsidy). Due to this, he made a motion to increase the cost of luncheons to $25.00. Upon hearing this, a modified motion was made by the other committee members to increase the cost to non-members to $25.00 and to decrease the cost to members to $10.00. Motion was accepted: 7 Ay – 1 Nay. The AFCEA Atlantic City Symposium jointly sponsored by C4ISR will take place 15 thru 19 Sep 08. Logistics tracts will take place there on the Logistics Enablers of Conditioned Based Maintenance, Performance-Based Logistics (PBL), Industrial Base Enterprise, and others. Rich O’Donnell encouraged everyone to attend. The Garden State Chapter Recognition dinner is scheduled for Saturday, 20 Sep 08. Rich O’Donnell intends it to be very nice, to be held at the Salt Creek Grille. He wants all those invited to have a very enjoyable evening and dinner since all have worked hard this past year to make our Chapter a successful Chapter.
