Chapter Management Committee Meeting Minutes

 

Rich O'Donnell, Chapter Chair, convened a regular meeting of the Chapter's Management Committee at 11:45 a.m., on 30 Jan 08, at LogSec Corp in Eatontown , NJ .

 

Attendees: 

 

Rich O'Donnell, Ken East, Bill Hogelin, Bill McLean, Steve Bromka, Ann St. Germaine, Jeannie Allerton

 

Reports of Officers:

 

Reports were presented by:

Bob Featheringham - VC Finance

B. Hogelin - Education

B. McLean - Membership

 

Finance:

B. Featheringham was not present but sent the financial results for the month of January 2008.

1) Thanks to a successful annual Symposium in May 2007, the Chapter finances remain in good standing.

2) Month Membership Subsidy:  Five (5) renewal fees with members’ applications  were received ($175.00 total) and were  forwarded on to SOLE International with checks totaling $650.00.  The subsidy (difference) was $475.00. 

3)  B. Featheringham plans to make a $500 donation in February 2008 to LEF as was budgeted.  The net amount from the LEF 50/50 fundraiser was $57.00.

4) A NJ tax-exempt account was opened at Staples and B. Featheringham has the information available for the committee members who buy from Staples or other regular vendors, e.g. Perry Trophy. 

 

Membership:

B. McLean reported 4 transactions (1 new member, 3 renewals) during Jan 2008.  Total membership is 300.   He reported that there is a disparity between the Garden State Chapter's and SOLE Hqs. active/inactive membership count.  He will work with the POC there to correct their numbers.

 

Education: 

1) Bill Hogelin reported that he started the CPL Study Group at lunchtime on 17 January 2008 and plans to continue meeting every month at Lane Hall on Fort Monmouth .  Six people are participating in order prepare for the CPL or CML exam.  Logistics topics from the course are explored at each session and further research and math practice is planned.  He handed out the following materials that he obtained from the SOLE website:

a) sample tests, both current and older,

b) Study guides for both the CPL and the CML , and

c) a list of reference materials. 

2) A discussion ensued on the merits of pursuing CML, vice CPL, certification, at least initially for those who took the recent class.

3) B. Hogelin is pursuing LRC University class offerings for logisticians in lieu of evening spring classes, subject: Reliability, Availability and Maintainability (RAM) for Logisticians.

 

LEF Liaison:  

As stated above in Finance:  Bob Featheringham plans to make a $500 donation in February 2008 to LEF as was budgeted. 

 

Programs:

R. Fulton was not present. Mr. O'Donnell reported that the speaker scheduled for our February luncheon will not be able to attend due to a scheduling conflict.  Mr. O’Donnell committed to locating another luncheon speaker for Feb.

 

Reports of Committees:

 

Symposium: 

K. East reported that the Symposium, which will be its 30th year, will take place on the firm date of 13 May 07 (Tuesday) at the Sheraton.  He will present a list of the Symposium committee members at our next monthly Chapter committee meeting.  Cost to each attendee is $175.  Cost to each table displayer is $1000. 

Mr.  O'Donnell offered to contact Tobyhanna Army Depot regarding their interest in having a table at the Symposium.  Ideas for gifts for speakers was discussed among committee members. 

 

Awards: 

1) J. Allerton submitted the SOLE activity report to SOLE Hqs, and reported that she discussed with Sarah James the ways and means that our Chapter can earn recognition “points” across a number of categories.

2) In this last quarter ending 31 Dec 2008, 750 award points were specifically earned by our chapter for holding/funding the Professional Logistician (25 points per 30 class hours). Points were also earned for luncheons, committee meetings and being a member of the Combined Professional Assoc (CPA) which sponsored the Commander's State of Team C4ISR Address . 

3) To keep everyone informed of our earning potential, J. Allerton provided all members present a hard-copy listing of the award point categories, and subsequently emailed a copy of the SOLE Awards Manual. 

 

Government Affairs:   No report was submitted.

 

Industrial Affairs  

Anne St. Germaine offered to assist with the Symposium and a Social, if conducted.

 

Newsletter: 

Rich O'Donnell asked all members to provide or suggest articles, authors, etc. to assist Michael Harris.  Previously, S. Bromka submitted two articles in response to this request.   All newsletter

 

inputs must be submitted no later than the 15th of the month. All contributors will have headshots included in the newsletter.

 

Publicity: 

S. Bromka reported that he needs articles submitted at least 2 weeks in advance of the Monmouth Message to get them published on time.

 

Adjournment:

Motion to adjourn was made by B. McLean and seconded by B. Hogelin.  The meeting

was adjourned at 1:00.
